After-hours group events in the islands can be elegant or sandy and casual, says Damien Miller, president and CEO of DMC Bahamas. The pirate theme is of course very popular, with possibilities that include wildly decorated tables, island entertainment and pirate-guest interaction.
“Our typical programs are for three or four nights with the group meeting and sleeping in one of the major resorts,” Miller says. “They’ll want one night for a dine-around and another night at one of our unique venues.”
Many groups want to experience a pirate theme, he says, because it’s part of Bahamian history.
Miller recommends venues such as Blackbeard’s Cay, a short boat transfer from Nassau and rumored to be the actual headquarters of the world’s most-famous pirate, and Fort Charlotte, which has the capacity to handle a group of up to 800, as ideal event locations.
For elegant and formal occasions for up to 100 guests, Miller likes historic Graycliff across the street from the governor’s house.
“It’s known to have the best service in the Caribbean,” he says, “as well as the largest wine cellar in the world—about 250,000 bottles from all over the globe.”
