What are three great dining experiences you would recommend for groups visiting the Charlottesville area?
- Michie Tavern: You haven’t fully experienced Charlottesville unless you’ve eaten at Michie Tavern. The Ordinary, a converted log cabin with original hand-hewn walls and beamed ceilings, has welcomed travelers for more than 200 years. Much like 18th century visitors, groups are served homemade Southern fare based on period recipes, with costumed hosts and waiters adding to the ambience. My favorite picks include fried chicken, black-eyed peas and stewed tomatoes.
- Historic Downtown Mall: Our Historic Downtown Mall is a destination within our destination, where groups can enjoy independently structured time exploring the pedestrian-only, brick-lined blocks. There is a plethora of dining options on and around Main Street, from street food carts parked on the main thoroughfare to business casual dining and everything in between. In the heart of downtown is Hamiltons’ Restaurant at First and Main streets, which offers a delicious Vegetarian Blue Plate special.
- The Old Mill Room: The Old Mill Room at The Boar’s Head has earned AAA’s Four Diamond designation for decades. Offering phenomenal dining in a historic setting, the restaurant’s rustic look is authentic, as it was built from timbers dating back to the 1800s. Albemarle County’s natural scenic beauty also provides for a most pleasant experience.
