- Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco Baltimore debuted at the end of July. Originally constructed in 1906, the building was the site of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Headquarters. - The Candlewood Suites New York City-Times Square opened its doors in July. Each of the 188 guest suites offers a full kitchen. - The Embassy Suites Buffalo recently opened in Buffalo’s central business district with 182 suites. The property shares the 15-story building space with The Residences at Avant, commercial office space and restaurants, and covers an entire city block. The hotel occupies the first seven floors in the mixed-use vertical community and also features an indoor pool and whirlpool, a complimentary evening reception and fitness centers. - Davidson Hotel Company will reopen and manage the Doubletree Pittsburgh/Monroeville Convention Center, formerly a Radisson hotel, following the completion of a multimillion-dollar renovation. The company also will manage the new Monroeville Convention Center next door, scheduled to open in September. The 15-story, 190-room Doubletree Pittsburgh/Monroeville Convention Center will feature an indoor pool, fitness center, restaurant and lounge. The hotel will offer 16,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, accommodating groups of up to 720 people. It is slated to open by December. The newly built Monroeville Convention Center is next door to the hotel and offers more than 100,000 square feet of exhibition space capable of hosting groups of up to 5,400 people. - The W Washington D.C. opened in July, taking over the historic former Hotel Washington, which opened in 1917. The new W Hotel incorporates the historic building’s Beaux Arts architecture in its contemporary design and includes features such as the W Living Room hotel lobby and a Bliss Spa. The hotel features 317 guest rooms, including 23 Marvelous suites, seven WOW suites, and an Extreme WOW suite. All guest rooms offer a flat-screen LCD television and docking station for MP3 players. For decades, the former Hotel Washington’s famed rooftop terrace was the most popular destination for politicians, providing views of the White House lawn. The rooftop returns as a modern cocktail lounge with an outdoor terrace.
The hotel also features more than 12,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including The Great Room, with a capacity for 700, and the Altitude Ballroom, which overlooks the Washington cityscape and has a capacity for 220 guests.
