Delaware has 16 state parks, and a number of them feature meeting and event space.
With a staff of event coordinators and a list of approved caterers, Delaware State Parks
acts as a one-stop shop for bookings for seven venues at three parks in Wilmington and New
Castle County.
For others in Kent and Sussex counties, bookings are made with individual parks. The 271-acre Bellevue State Park, a former duPont family estate in Wilmington, has four distinct venues.
Bellevue Hall, a mansion built in the 1850s, has five rooms available for meetings and events, with a capacity for 25 to 125 people. Tented garden affairs can take up to 250 guests.
Cauffiel House, a colonial-revival summer estate built for a DuPont adviser in the 1920s, has meeting facilities for groups of up to 50 people and three period guest rooms that can accommodate up to six people.
Designed as an indoor horse-training facility, the park’s Figure 8 Barn has 32,000 square feet of open space holding up to 3,000 people, a raised dance floor and stage, and large doors for trade show display access.
Also at Bellevue, the Mount Pleasant Meeting House, built in 1838, is a restored meeting house and parsonage that can hold up to 120 people.
Alapocas Run State Park in Wilmington features the Blue Ball Barn. Built in 1914 and part of a DuPont farm, the restored facility has a range of space, with a capacity for up to 250 people. Options include a banquet room in the original hayloft and a courtyard for outdoor functions. The LEED-certified conference center’s galleries house the Delaware Folk Art Collection on the second floor.
Located in White Clay Creek State Park in New Castle County’s Newark, the Judge Morris Estate can handle groups of 35 indoors and 125 tented outdoors. A farmhouse built in the 1790s, it is decorated in the style of the 1930s, when it was expanded.
Killens Pond State Park & Water Park, situated 14 miles south of Dover in Kent County, features a lake with boating and fishing, a sports complex and a summer waterpark. It has four pavilions and can accommodate up to 1,200 for events.
Located near the beach in Sussex County’s Lewes is the Biden Environmental Training Center in Henlopen State Park, named for Vice President Joseph Biden, former Delaware senator. Previously a military training facility, it offers five meeting rooms accommodating up to 260 people and complimentary dormitory accommodations for 53 guests.
At Delaware Seashore State Park in Rehoboth, the Indian River Life-Saving Station features the restored station, built in 1905; a museum; a gift shop; and an outdoor tented area for functions of up to 250 people.
