Originally from Orange, Texas, Walter McDonald discovered his passion for sand at Boy Scout camp.
"I watched this kid dribble wet sand into the shape of a tree," he recalls, "and I was hooked."
Today, McDonald, or "Amazin’ Walter," is one of the world’s foremost sand sculptors. A South Padre Island fixture for more than 30 years, he has sculpted his way around the globe and into the Guinness Book of Records.
As founder and grand poohbah of the Sons of the Beach, a "not profitable disorganization dedicated to having fun," he organizes team-building activities, competitions and events at South Padre Island, which he calls one of the world’s premier sculpting beaches.
"South Padre Island is not the Texas you think you know," he says. "Our beautiful beaches, great fishing, laid-back attitude and semi-tropical climate make us a destination with something for everyone."
McDonald aims to help planners build art and memories in the sand.
"From private lessons to large corporate events," he says, "we’ll make you a hero on the beach and help you have fun—I promise!"
