Checking In - November South 2009

As we head into the final two months of 2009, it’s time to remember what a great year it’s been to forget!

The economy is still wandering aimlessly about purgatory, the latest job figures are less than encouraging, and corporations are planning for an "L-shaped" recovery.

Not all is doom and gloom, however, as Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve, just before press time hinted that the "Great Recession" may indeed be officially over—of course, if you don’t have work, that is indeed of little comfort.

At the moment, we’re gearing up to produce our annual Meetings Market Trends Survey supplement, which polls our meeting planner readers to find out what they think about the state of the industry, and the results this year should be telling. We’re planning on offering a full slate of both planner opinions and the prognostications of experts in the hospitality industry, and while it may be too late to take the actual survey, make sure to jump on MeetingsFocus.com to put in your two cents on how you expect 2010 to turn out—look for the comment field—and how you will navigate the coming year.
