Salt Lake City
- The 850-room Little America Hotel (801.596.5700; www.littleamerica.com) completed a renovation of its 22,000 square feet of meeting space in May.
- Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel (801.401.2000; www.saltlakecitysheraton.com) finished a $14 million renovation during the summer. The project included upgrades to its 362 guest rooms, 30 suites, 33,000 square feet of meeting space, fitness center and lobby.
- This past spring, Embassy Suites Salt Lake City (801.359.7800; www.embassysuites.com) completed a $2 million upgrade, including new TVs, renovated meeting space, new furniture and a refurbished building exterior.
- Royal Garden Inn Salt Lake City (801.325.5308; www.bwgardeninn.com) is expanding. When completed in 2010, the property will have a total of 542 guest rooms to support its 6,500 square feet of meeting space.
- The Salt Lake CVB (www.visitsaltlake.com) began a new online carbon offset program, which can be found on its website. The program is a partnership with TreeUtah and is operated in conjunction with Salt Lake County’s One Million Trees program. As an example, the CVBs estimated its staff’s travel for 2009 (1 million miles) and calculated the corresponding carbon footprint with its carbon calculator (212 tons of carbon emissions). The bureau purchased 424 trees to double the offset of this estimated impact on the environment.
Park City
- Dakota Mountain Lodge (435.647.5500; www.dakotamountainlodge.com), part of The Waldorf Astoria Collection, opened in July. The luxury resort offers 175 guest rooms, 15,000 square feet of meeting space, the 16,000-square-foot Golden Door Spa and ski-in/ski-out accessibility.
- Ideally situated at the base of Deer Valley Resort, The St. Regis Deer Crest Resort (435.940.5700; www.stregisdeercrest.com) opened in November. It offers 181 guest rooms, 8,000 square feet of meeting space and the 14,000-square-foot Remede Spa.
- The Montage Deer Valley (435.604.1300; www.montagedeervalley.com) is scheduled to open in December 2010 with 174 guest rooms, ski-in/ski-out access, a 35,000-square-foot indoor and outdoor spa with 29 treatment rooms and 20,000 square feet of meeting space.
- Utah’s newest distillery since Prohibition, the High West Distillery (801.972.2566; www.highwestdistillery.com), which opened this past summer, is also the state’s only ski-in/ski-out distillery.
