Maui

  • Benchmark Hospitality has taken over management of the former Maui Prince, renaming it the Makena Beach & Golf Resort (808.368.8444; www.makenaresortmaui.com). No major changes are planned for the 310-room resort hotel located on the southern shore of the island in the Makena district. The beachfront resort offers 77,500 square feet of meeting space and an 18-hole championship golf course.

  • The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa (808.662.8000; www.sheraton-maui.com) unveiled the Spa at Black Rock, which features indoor and outdoor relaxation areas and seven treatment rooms. Signature products offered at the spa combine ocean plants, minerals and water with essence oils of Polynesia.

  • The Maui Mana Kai Resort (808.879.1561; www.mauimanakai.com) in Kihei completed a $5 million renovation. The renovation included a redesign of the lobby, swimming pool and other public areas.

  • The Honua Kai Resort & Spa (808.662.2800; www.honuakaimaui.com) in Kaanapali recently opened a 310-suite tower, giving the property a total of 628 guest suites and a restaurant called Duke’s Beach House. Honua Kai, which is operated by Intrawest, opened in January 2009 with a 318-unit tower. A 7,000-square-foot spa is expected to open in the coming months. The property has several large suites with terraces that can accommodate small meetings.

  • Aqua Hotels & Resorts has taken over management of the 72-unit, all-suite Diamond Wailea Resort & Spa (808.874.0500; www.aquaresorts.com), located at the Wailea Resort. The hotel offers a spa, a boardroom and a larger meeting room accommodating up to 100 people, as well as landscaped outdoor event spaces.

  • The Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa (808.875.1234; www.grandwailea.com) recently opened Ho’olei at Wailea, luxury three-bedroom townhomes that are available to overnight guests and located across the street from the main hotel. The property wrapped up a $50 million renovation in late 2008 that included the refurbishment of all 780 guest rooms.

  • The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua (808.669.6200; www.ritzcarlton.com) recently completed a $160 million makeover that gave the property a new Hawaiian-style design with use of native stone, woods and landscaping. The hotel also has a new full-service spa with 15 treatment rooms.

Molokai

  • Aqua Hotels & Resorts is the new operator of the Hotel Molokai (808.553.5347; www.hotelmolokai.com). Rebranded as the Aqua Hotel Molokai, the 53-room property, the only hotel on the island, was recently renovated.

Lanai

  • The Four Seasons Lanai, The Lodge at Koele (808.565.4000; www.fourseasons.com) is offering horse-drawn carriage rides through Lanai City as a new activity option for guests.
