Miami

  • W South Beach (305.938.3000; www.whotels.com) debuted in July 2009 with 312 rooms and bungalows and 10,000 square feet of meeting space. The on-site Bliss Spa is set to open in February 2010.
  • Newly opened at the end of January, Tempo Miami, A RockResort (786.369.0300; www.tempomiami.rockresorts.com) is set within a soaring 67-story tower on the north end of downtown Miami. The hotel offers 56 hotel rooms, 305 residences, meeting facilities, an 8,000-square-foot spa and a pool deck. 
  • Dream South Beach (www.dreamsouthbeach.com) is slated to open this spring. The 108-room boutique property will feature Chopra Spa, a haven of holistic healing, along with a rooftop pool and lounge.
  • JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Miami (305.350.0750; www.marriott.com) will open in July with 275 rooms, 38 suites, three concierge levels and 32 meeting rooms totaling 80,000 square feet of meeting space. The hotel also will boast two entertainment floors featuring a golf school, an NBA-approved basketball court, a media room and a billiards room.
  • The Doral Golf Resort & Spa (305.592.2000; www.doralresort.com) unveiled the Jim McLean Signature Golf Course (formerly the Silver Course) in November. Named for the acclaimed instructor who has operated a namesake golf school at Doral for the past 20 years, the new course claims to have three of the area’s toughest starting holes, along with the aptly named Bermuda Triangle that challenges golfers with three consecutive water holes on the back nine.
  • The Marriott Miami Airport Hotel Campus (www.marriottmiamiairportcampus.com) emerged from a $70 million makeover of its three MIA properties—the 366-room Miami Airport Marriott (305.649.5000), the 300-room Courtyard Miami Airport South (305.642.8200) and the 163-suite Residence Inn Miami Airport South (305.642.8570). Set within a park-like atmosphere steps away from one another, the properties offer 15,400 square feet of flexible meeting space, including a grand ballroom and 19 meeting rooms.
  • Boasting decor created by Todd Oldham, The Hotel (305.531.2222; www.thehotelofsouthbeach.com) completed a 20-room luxury oceanfront addition last November, featuring private access along famed Ocean Drive. The elegant boutique property, a favorite among musicians and film crews, offers meeting space for small groups.
  • Acqualina Resort & Spa on Sunny Isles Beach (305.918.6777; www.acqualina.com) has earned the prestigious AAA Five Diamond Award for 2010. Set on 4.5 beachfront acres, Acqualina features a 20,000-square-foot oceanfront spa, two oceanfront restaurants, four swimming pools and four oceanfront meeting rooms.

Fort Lauderdale

  • The Fort Lauderdale Grande Hotel & Yacht Club rebranded as the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina (954.463.4000; www.fortlauderdalemarinahotel.com) following a $70 million transformation that redesigned all public spaces, modernized guest rooms and suites, and enhanced the property’s 21,300 square feet of meeting space.
  • The final phase of renovations was just completed at the Westin Beach Resort, Fort Lauderdale (954.467.1111; www.starwoodhotels.com), now boasting 433 redesigned guest rooms and 32,000 square feet of meeting space, including a rooftop deck, along with a Heavenly Spa by Westin.
  • The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale (954.465.2300; www.ritzcarlton.com) recently debuted the new Cero restaurant, showcasing Florida’s fresh local ingredients—citrus and seafood taking center stage—along with innovative entrees like house-made gnocchi and free-range veal chops. The 192-room property, a recent AAA Five Diamond award winner, features 24,000 square feet of meeting space.
