Last summer, the Connecticut Science Center (860.SCIENCE; www.ctsciencecenter.org) opened on Riverfront Plaza in downtown Hartford, just steps from the Connecticut Convention Center. The LEED-certified, multilevel building with a dramatic glass-walled atrium offers numerous spaces for private events and features 150 hands-on exhibits, a 3D-digital theater with stadium seating and a spectacular view of the Connecticut River.

New hotels that have opened or will open in the next few months in Greater Hartford include the Hyatt Summerfield Suites Hartford North/Windsor (860.298.8000; http://hartfordnorth.summerfieldsuites.hyatt.com); the Hampton Inn & Suites East Hartford (860.282.2500; www.hamptoninneasthartford.com) and the Hampton Inn & Suites Farmington/Hartford (860.674.8488; www.hamptoninnfarmington.com).
New Haven
- The iconic Union Trust Building recently completed a $7 million restoration and is scheduled to become the newest hotel in downtown New Haven (203.777.8550; www.visitnewhaven.com). The hotel, set to open in mid-2011, is expected to have 150 rooms, four restaurants and 20,000 square feet of event space.
Southeastern Connecticut

An $8 million renovation of the Hilton Mystic (860.572.0731; www.hiltonmystic.com) is nearly complete. The project has included enhancements to all 182 guest rooms, meeting facilities, the pool area, the Moorings Restaurant and Soundings Lounge, the hotel lobby and other public areas.

Mohegan Sun (888.226.7711; www.mohegansun.com) recently opened Casino of the Wind, a 68,000-square-foot addition, and last summer, the property reopened the Winter Entrance in Casino of the Earth, the casino’s original structure when it opened in 1996. The area features a new food court, including New Haven’s famous Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana and Bobby’s Burger Palace by Bobby Flay. Bobby Flay also partnered on another restaurant with Mohegan Sun in November 2009 when he opened Bar Americain, just off the hotel lobby.

The 825-room MGM Grand at Foxwoods (800.488.7777; www.mgmatfoxwoods.com) opened in 2008 with 115,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 50,000-square-foot pillarless ballroom; the 4,000-seat MGM Grand Theater; 1,400 slot machines; 60 table games; a variety of restaurants and nightclubs; a spa; and two championship golf courses.
