New Orleans

  • Last year saw the reopening of the Roosevelt New Orleans Hotel (504.648.1200; www.therooseveltneworleans.com), a 116-year-old grande dame of New Orleans, with a $145 million historic restoration. As the newest member of the Waldorf Astoria Collection, The Roosevelt features 504 guest rooms and 60,000 square feet of meeting space, including three ballrooms and 23 meeting and event rooms.
  • The Astor Crowne Plaza (504.962.0500; www.astorneworleans.com) finished an $11 million renovation last year, which included three new meeting rooms, each with 700 square feet. Overall, meeting space was expanded to a total of 32,000 square feet.
  • The Louisiana Superdome (504.587.3663; www.superdome.com) has received $219 million worth of renovations, and more than $85 million in improvements are still to come over the next two years, which will provide improved sideline seating, a wider main concourse, two field-level lounges and 16 additional private suites. 
  • Upgrades to Ernest N. Morial Convention Center (504.582.3023; www.mccno.com) will total $92.7 million through 2010.
  • Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (504.464.0831; www.flymsy.com) is beginning a $755 million modernization and improvement project in preparation for the 2013 Super Bowl. The airport also just added new international service on Aeromexico.

Baton Rouge

  • Baton Rouge experienced a 10 percent rise in hotel room inventory in 2009, bringing its capacity close to 10,000 rooms. Several of the new hotels contributing to this increase include Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites, Microtel Airport Springhill, Cambria Suites and Drury Inn.
  • The King Hotel by Hotel Indigo (www.hotelindigo.com) is slated to open in 2011. The boutique hotel will bring 90 additional rooms to the downtown Baton Rouge area. The property will be located near the Baton Rouge River Center.

Lafayette

  • The property previously known as Hotel Acadiana underwent a $10 million renovation last year and emerged as the Crowne Plaza Lafayette-South Acadiana (337.233.8120; www.ichotelsgroup.com). It offers 14,000 square feet of meeting space and 290 guest rooms.

Shreveport

  • Homewood Suites by Hilton Shreveport debuted in 2009, and this year, Shreveport will see the opening of several properties, including Hampton Inn, Sleep Inn and Cambria Suites.

Bossier City

  • Several new hotels are being unveiled in Bossier City. In 2009, TownePlace Suites and Value Place Inn opened, and this year, Holiday Inn and Courtyard at the Boardwalk will debut.
