  • Located downtown, Hotel Palomar (312.755.9703; www.hotelpalomar-chicago.com) is slated to open March 24. The Kimpton property will house 5,800 square feet of group gathering space and 261 guest rooms.
  • Plans are in the works to open the JW Marriott Hotel Chicago (312.660.8200; www.marriott.com) in September. The hotel, located on West Adams in a historic property, will offer 581 guest rooms and 37 meeting rooms.
  • Last December, Elysian (312.646.1300; www.elysianhotels.com) opened on East Wacker Drive in downtown Chicago. The property offers more than 3,500 square feet of meeting space and 188 guest rooms.
  • theWit, A Doubletree Hotel (312.467.0200; www.thewithotel.com) opened in May 2009. The boutique property offers 7,000 square feet of meeting space, 256 rooms and 42 hotel suites.
  • Renovations are under way at the W Chicago-City Center (312.332.1200; www.starwoodhotels.com), with plans for completion by the end of spring. Located downtown, the property offers 368 guest rooms and 12,000 square feet of group gathering space.
  • The 500-room Doubletree Hotel Chicago Magnificent Mile (312.787.6100; www.hilton.com) recently underwent an upgrade. The property offers 16,000 square feet of meeting space.
  • Swissotel (312.565.0565; www.swissotel.com) completed a $100 million upgrade in April 2009, which included a meeting space expansion. The property now houses 661 guest rooms and 65,000 square feet of meeting space.
  • In May 2009, The Art Institute of Chicago (312.443.3600; www.artic.edu) opened its $300 million Modern Wing. The wing features an outdoor sculpture terrace, a courtyard, a bridge to Millennium Park, Griffin Court for group events and three floors of galleries.
