Swissotel (312.565.0565; www.swissotel.com) completed a $100 million upgrade in April 2009, which included a meeting space expansion. The property now houses 661 guest rooms and 65,000 square feet of meeting space.

In May 2009, The Art Institute of Chicago (312.443.3600; www.artic.edu) opened its $300 million Modern Wing. The wing features an outdoor sculpture terrace, a courtyard, a bridge to Millennium Park, Griffin Court for group events and three floors of galleries.
