North Lake Tahoe

  • The Ritz-Carlton Highlands, Lake Tahoe (530.562.3000;www.ritzcarlton.com) debuted Dec. 9 at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort in Truckee, Calif. Designed to be a contemporary version of the grand mountain lodges built at the turn of the 20th century, the ski-in, ski-out property offers 170 guest rooms, a 20,000-square-foot spa and more than 15,000 square feet of meeting space, in addition to Manzanita, a signature restaurant created by San Francisco chef Traci Des Jardins, recipient of the James Beard Award.
  • JMA Ventures plans to begin construction on Hotel Avery (415.546.7766; www.hotelavery.com), located on the Truckee River in Truckee, Calif., this summer and open the property in December 2012. The boutique hotel is slated to house 35 guest rooms, 10 privately owned suites and a restaurant with an outdoor deck overlooking the river. Groups interested in staying at the hotel will have the ability to use the restaurant as a place to gather.
  • Boulder Bay (775.833.3377; www.boulderbayresort.com) plans to revitalize the Crystal Bay portion of Lake Tahoe. Plans include a resort with 300 guest rooms, 59 condos and a wellness center, as well as a pedestrian village, retail, dining and meeting space. The project is scheduled to break ground in spring 2011.
  • Cal Neva Resort, Spa & Casino (775.832.4000; www.calnevaresort.com) completed a conference space renovation last summer. Originally built in 1926 and located on Crystal Point, the resort offers 199 guest rooms and more than 16,000 square feet of meeting space.
  • PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn (530.583.1576; www.plumpjacksquawvalleyinn.com), located in Olympic Valley, Calif., completed a guest room renovation in late 2009. The property features 60 guest rooms and 6,000 square feet of group gathering space.
  • Located near downtown Truckee, Cedar House Sport Hotel (530.582.5655; www.cedarhousesporthotel.com) completed a meeting space upgrade in late 2008 and plans to begin construction on a greenhouse this summer. The property plans to grow fruits and vegetables in the wintertime and offer wellness programs to visitors. Private events, including cooking and nutrition classes, will soon be offered to groups. The boutique hotel offers 42 guest rooms and two meeting rooms.
  • Plans are in the works for a massive overhaul of Homewood Mountain Resort (530.525.2992;www.skihomewood.com). The plan, which was in the initial stages at press time, includes a pedestrian village, a lodge, residential housing and a gondola. According to developers JMA Ventures, the master plan is under way, and the entire project is slated for completion around 2015.

South Lake Tahoe

  • Lakeland Village Beach & Mountain Resort (530.544.1685; www.lakeland-village.com), located in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., plans to finish renovating and expanding its Lakeshore Pavilion in May. The property offers 260 guest units (some studios, some townhomes) and 4,600 square feet of meeting space.
