Metro Atlanta
- A former Macy’s department store is undergoing renovations and will open this summer as 200 Peachtree (678.420.3408; www.200peachtree.com). The facility will include one entire floor with 18,000 square feet of exhibit space, shops and restaurants.
- The 414-room Loews Atlanta Hotel (404.745.5000; www.loewshotels.com) is slated to open April 1 with more than 25,000 square feet of meeting and event space, a ballroom and Jasmine’s Restaurant.
- The Hotel Indigo Atlanta Downtown (877.270.1389; www.hotelindigo.com) will open in July 2011 with 155 guest rooms. The property will feature wall murals that change every four years in guest rooms and a lobby with changing backgrounds, music and scents to complement the seasons.
- The 142-room Hotel Indigo College Park (877.270.1389; www.hotelindigo.com) will open near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport July 2011 with 155 guest rooms.
- The 403-room Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway (404.459.5681; www.marriott.com) will open this August with more than 300,000 square feet of event space. The facility will be adjacent to the Georgia International Convention Center.
- The 237-room W Atlanta-Downtown (404.582.5800; www.whotels.com/atlanta) opened last January with a spa, 9,000 square feet of meeting space, four bars, a BLT Steak restaurant and a helicopter pad.
- The 26-story St. Regis Atlanta Hotel (404.563.7900; www.starwoodhotels.com) opened last April with 151 guest rooms and 50 condominiums. Amenities include a spa, a 40,000-square-foot pool piazza, a fitness center and eight meeting rooms with more than 16,000 square feet of space.
- The Hotel Palomar Atlanta-Midtown (678.412.2400; www.hotelpalomar-atlanta.com) opened in April 2009 with 304 rooms, 38 residences and 10,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Artmore Hotel (404.876.6100; www.artmorehotel.com), formerly the Granada Suites Hotel, reopened last May after a complete renovation and restoration. The hotel features two meeting rooms and 1,800 square feet of meeting space.
- The 760-room Sheraton Atlanta (404.659.6500; www.sheratonatlantahotel.com) wrapped up a $20 million renovation in November. The facility also offers 90,000 square feet of meeting space, a fitness center, a pool and three restaurants.
- Hyatt Regency Atlanta (404.577.1234; www.hyattregencyatlanta.com) recently completed a renovation of its 1,260 guest rooms, which included a redesign, the addition of luxury amenities and chic new studio-style rooms in the Radius Tower. The hotel has 180,000 square feet of function space.
- Grand Hyatt Atlanta (404.237.1234; www.grandatlanta.hyatt.com) recently finished a multimillion-dollar guest room renovation. The property has 30,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
- The 1,242-room Hilton Atlanta (404.659.2000; www.hilton.com/atlanta) completed a major renovation in November of all guest rooms, public areas and the property’s 119,000 square feet of meeting space. A sky bridge was added to connect the hotel with the Marriott Marquis Hotel.
- The Georgia Aquarium (404.581.4126; www.georgiaaquarium.org) is expanding with a $110 million dolphin exhibit slated to open by late fall 2010. The additional 84,000 square feet of space and 1.3 million-gallon exhibit will include dolphin encounters, viewing windows and dolphin shows.
- The Center for Puppetry Arts (404.881.5109; www.puppetry.org), the largest museum dedicated to puppetry in North America, is planning an expansion to double the facility’s current size. The expansion will be dedicated to the work of Jim Henson and is slated for completion in 2012. The museum currently has four different spaces for group events and can accommodate up to 300 people.
North Georgia Mountains
- The 110-room Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Dalton (706.529.6000; www.ichotelsgroup.com) opened last September with a pool, a fitness center and a restaurant.
Southern Rivers
- Columbus’ newest attraction, the National Infantry Museum (706.685.5800; www.nationalinfantrymuseum.com), opened last June with eight major galleries, an IMAX theater and a restaurant. The facility offers a variety of event rental spaces to fit receptions, dinners and classroom-style meetings. The largest venue can accommodate 2,100 guests.
Historic South
- There will be a groundbreaking in June for the Augusta Trade, Events and Exhibit Center (706.823.6600; www.augustaga.org). When completed in spring 2012, the new convention center will add 40,000 square feet of exhibit space to the existing 49,000 square feet at the current convention center. The addition will also include a ballroom and kitchen.
Coastal Georgia
- The 1929 Morgan Tennis Center (912.635.2236; www.jekyllislandauthority.org) in Jekyll Island’s National Historic Landmark District is being converted into meeting and function space. The converted facility will be used during construction of a new Jekyll Island Convention Center. When completed this summer, the tennis center will offer 5,000 square feet of event space and a 1,700-square-foot mezzanine. The new Jekyll Island Convention Center is slated to begin construction in mid-summer and be completed by December 2011.
- The 138-room Hampton Inn and Suites (912.635.3733; www.hamptoninn.com) opened this January on Jekyll Island with a 500-square-foot meeting room.
- The 85-room Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront (912.721.3800; www.bohemianhotelsavannah.com) opened in December with an executive boardroom and reception space in the rooftop bar for up to 110 guests.
- The 143-room Springhill Suites Savannah Downtown/Historic District (912.629.5300; www.marriott.com) opened last fall next to the Savannah Civic Center with two meeting rooms and a health club.
