Short Takes - West April 2010

  • This summer, Oregon’s Portland Art Museum will present The Bible Illuminated: R. Crumb’s Book of Genesis as illustrated by the internationally celebrated artist R. Crumb. Organized by the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles for a national tour, the exhibition of more than 200 drawings is the culmination of four years of work by Crumb to illustrate every word of the 50 chapters that make up Genesis in the Bible. Crumb is most known for his impact on the world of underground comics and for characters that he has created such as Fritz the Cat. Rendered in Crumb’s signature style in black-and-white, each drawing contains six to eight panels and depicts the stories of creation, Adam and Eve, Sodom and Gomorrah, and more. The exhibition runs from June 12 to Sept. 19. For more information, call 503.226.2811or visit http://portlandartmuseum.org.

Set at the base of L.A.’s Hollywood Hills, The Strip is home to many of the city’s most historic live music clubs, such as The Roxy, Whisky-a-Go-Go, House of Blues and Viper Room.
