Anaheim

  • In September, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa (714.635.2300; www.disneyland.com) completed a new addition, which includes 203 new guest rooms and 50 two-bedroom Disney Vacation Club villas, the first Disney Vacation Club property on the West Coast. The 2.5-acre addition increases accommodations more than 30 percent and brings the total number of hotel rooms to 948.
  • Disneyland Hotel (714.778.6600; www.disneyland.com) started a significant renovation project that will include major upgrades to its guest rooms, new room amenities and considerable changes to the exterior of the hotel. The hotel’s three towers—Magic, Wonder and Dreams—will receive an updated look with energy efficient windows. The Dreams tower will be the first to be renovated and is scheduled for completion in June 2010. The hotel will remain open during the renovation, which is scheduled to be completed in 2012.
  • Disneyland Resort (714.520.5060; www.disneyland.com) is undergoing a multiyear redevelopment at Disney’s California Adventure Park. The project will cost more than $1 billion and will create an array of new attractions for guests. The entire development is set to open in phases, with completion set for 2012.

Buena Park

  • At press time, the 145-room Courtyard Anaheim Buena Park (714.670.6600; www.marriott.com) was set to hold its grand reopening April 15. The property, which has 425 square feet of meeting space, features the new Courtyard Refreshing Business Lobby, with a Starbucks, flat-screen HDTVs and the Bistro restaurant and bar.
  • Knott’s Berry Farm Resort Hotel (866.752.2444; www.knottshotel.com) recently completed a renovation of its 20,000 square feet of meeting space, including an 8,500-square-foot ballroom, two penthouse ballrooms and several breakout rooms.

Costa Mesa

  • The former Holiday Inn was rebranded as the 225-room Hotel Hanford (714.557.3000; www.thehotelhanford.com) in December. Now an upscale boutique hotel, the property features more than 8,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and another 3,000 square feet of outdoor function space.

Irvine

  • The SpringHill Suites Irvine John Wayne Airport/Orange County (949.757.0500; www.marriott.com) recently opened. The property features 132 suites, a pool, a fitness center and one meeting room.

Newport Beach

  • In 2009, Hyatt Regency Newport Beach (949.729.1234; www.newportbeach.hyatt.com) completed a $2.6 million renovation of its 26,000-square-foot meeting and outdoor function space. The renovation included the addition of the open-air Ballroom Arbor, featuring an outdoor fountain, palm trees and native California flowers and plants. Upgrades to the hotel’s meeting space also include new carpeting, lighting and wall coverings.
  • In 2009, Island Hotel Newport Beach (949.759.0808; www.theislandhotel.com) completed a two-year renovation encompassing all guest rooms, meeting facilities and public spaces, including the popular Palm Terrace Restaurant & Lounge. The most recently completed portion of the hotel’s transformation spans more than 20,000 square feet of meeting space.
  • The 254-room Newport Beach Marriott Bayview (949.854.4500; www.marriott.com) finished an $8 million renovation of its guest accommodations in 2009.

Laguna Beach

  • In November, the historic oceanfront La Casa del Camino Hotel (888.367.5232; www.casacamino.com), located in the heart of Laguna Beach, became part of the Riviera Magazine Design series when it unveiled the Casa Surf Project, a refurbishment of 10 of its guest accommodations by key brands and designers, including Billabong, Glaceau, Lost International and Rip Curl. A portion of the proceeds from each Casa Surf Suite will be donated to various charities for the first year.
  • The oceanfront Pacific Edge Hotel (949.494.8566; www.pacificedgehotel.com) is currently undergoing renovations of its 130 guest rooms and suites overlooking the Pacific Ocean, as well as the Pacific Edge Villa, a 4,000-square-foot private beachfront venue. The upgrades are scheduled for completion in June.
