What are three interesting ways for groups to incorporate the history of Birmingham into agendas?

  • Birmingham Civil Rights Institute: Plan a reception in the rotunda at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI). The institute documents the struggle of African-American citizens in Birmingham to become full participants in the city’s government and business community. The BCRI invites guests to experience the drama and spirit of the Civil Rights Movement through replicas of segregated facilities and historic artifacts. The rotunda is a beautiful place in which to hold your event. The space can accommodate a standing reception for 300.
  • Carraway-Davie House: The Carraway-Davie House is a unique blend of past and present containing many architectural elements salvaged from historic Alabama landmarks. The exterior brick came from the old Birmingham Paper Company, dating from the turn of the 20th century. The six columns on the portico are hand-hewn cypress logs that date back to 1850 and were originally part of Talladega’s Presbyterian Female Collegiate Institute. The hand-carved lavender glass front door, handsome library fireplace, marble tiles and cast-iron chandelier in the den came from Birmingham’s old Terminal Station, torn down in the late 1960s. Maximum group size is dependent upon the actual space utilized.
  • Vulcan Park and Museum: Vulcan Park and Museum was first created for the 1904 World’s Fair and has since stood as a symbol for the historically industrial city. Vulcan statue overlooks the city of Birmingham, standing atop a 124-foot-tall observation deck on Red Mountain. At Vulcan Park and Museum, there’s a perfect blend of past and present, representing the spirit of our city. With breathtaking views of the city and a modern, yet timeless space for hosting events, Vulcan Park and Museum allows its guests to interact inside Vulcan Center’s captivating history museum. Indoor and outdoor space is available. It’s the perfect setting for lunch meetings, elaborate dinners, corporate cocktail events, state-of-the-art seminars and receptions. The private Electra Room has space for up to 200 guests, while the City Overlook outdoor patio can accommodate 250 guests.
