While I’ve never personally been to Austin, Texas, the idea of it has always intrigued me. After all, what’s not to like about a city whose credo is "Keep Austin Weird?"
Besides its unabashed eccentricity and cultural entrepreneurship, Austin also serves up what is arguably the best music scene in the state, if not the nation. Its Sixth Street Entertainment District has catapulted honky-tonk troubadours such as Stevie Ray Vaughan to the status of legend, and its Austin City Limits television show is a boot-stomping billboard for what the destination is all about—and is set to crank up the amplifiers in a new, much larger location in downtown’s trendy 2nd Street District in February.
Our cover story this issue, written by content developer Dana Enfinger, captures the unbridled energy of Austin, from its many music districts to ample opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, and from meetings-friendly museums to one-of-a-kind boutique hotels and major brands.
And if one needs a break from all of this lovable "weirdness," the Texas Hill Country unfolds south to San Antonio, with an emerging wine trail and some of the best golf courses and spas in the U.S.
Doesn’t sound so weird to me after all.
