1. Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine - Baltimore
You probably remember from your history classes that Francis Scott Key, who penned the national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, was inspired by the emergence of an American flag over a plucky American fort that withstood bombardment by the British navy throughout one eventful night in 1814. That battle was a turning point of the War of 1812, and that fort, which coincidentally is shaped like a star, stands in Baltimore Harbor.

Baltimore
Kimpton's Hotel Monaco Baltimore (443.692.6170) recently opened with 202 rooms and suites and more than 6,000 square feet of meeting space. Originally constructed in 1906, the building was the site of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Headquarters.

New York
Located at the current site of the Embassy Suites New York, Conrad New York will debut in Manhattan's Financial District in the fourth quarter of 2011. The hotel will offer 463 luxury rooms and a 15-story atrium lobby featuring a Sol LeWitt art piece rising 13 floors above the check-in desk. Each guest room will feature an average of more than 550 square feet and a minimum of two flat-panel televisions. Conrad New York will also feature upscale dining and beverage outlets and more than 17,000 square feet of flexible meeting space.
