Happenings – Silicon Valley

San Jose Civic Center (408.792.4194) plans to finish an $11 million upgrade this fall. The initiative includes new exterior LED lighting, new concession stands, refurbished hardwood floors and a $1 million sound and high-definition video package.

Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (408.501.0979) emerged in June from a $1.3 billion airport modernization. The upgrades increased the efficiency of the airport overall, including areas such as security check points, ticketing, parking and baggage.

The Honolulu Academy of Arts will be presenting Four Thousand Years of Southeast Asian Art from Sept. 9 to Jan. 9, 2011. On view will be approximately 150 works of art from Thailand and Cambodia, many of which have never been displayed at the museum. The exhibition will cover the artistic and cultural developments of three important Southeast Asian cultures—Ban Chiang, Khmer and Sukhothai—covering more than 4,000 years, from Neolithic earthenware ceramics to a gold Buddhist sculpture.
