Plan Your Interview Like You Plan Your Meetings
By SHERYL SOOKMAN SCHELTER
Arriving for an interview having not prepared in advance is like walking into a meeting or event with no advance planning—it’s unlikely that the end-result will be a positive experience!
While a move like that could cost you your job, lack of preparation for an interview is a surefire way to keep your career from launching forward. According to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and most economists, the expectation is that it could take at least four years before we see complete restoration of the 8.4 million jobs wiped out by the recent recession. With an extremely competitive job market, it's critical to put yourself at the top of the prospect list. Assuming you've created a resume that piques the interest of potential employers, your next step is to develop an interview strategy that results in job offers.

Kudos
Hilton Chicago received the 2009 Star of the Industry Award in Good Earthkeeping from the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association for its environmental efforts. The Good Earthkeeping Award recognizes lodging properties that have developed a culture toward integrating superior environmental management practices that improve everyday operations. The hotel focuses on conservation in a number of areas: recycling, energy and water conservation, solid waste reduction, effluents and emissions, purchasing and business issues. To realize this goal, a green committee was formed, comprising 15 hotel team members from various departments. In 2009, the hotel diverted 167 tons of recyclables from landfills, including paper/cardboard, glass, plastics, metals and miscellaneous items such as batteries and fluorescent bulbs. In addition, the green committee planted a rooftop garden, which supplies fresh herbs as well as vegetables to the kitchen for use in meal preparation. For more information, call 312.922.4400.
