GSA, the federal agency that sets per diem rates for federal government travel, issued its 2011 per diem reimbursement rates for lodging, meals and incidental expenses incurred while on official government business.
Because of the economy’s effect on hotel rates, some areas of the U.S. will see a decrease in the per diem rate for lodging.
For fiscal year 2011, the standard per diem rate for lodging, which covers most areas of the U.S., has been adjusted upward slightly to $77. However, the rate differs in 378 locations that GSA designates as Nonstandard Areas. Of these areas, 310 will see decreases in the rate over last year’s level, while 50 will see increases and 18 will see no change.
The rates, which are based on hotel industry reports on average daily room rates, go into effect Oct. 1. Information that is specific to various locations is available at www.gsa.gov/perdiem.
