Keeping it Family Friendly

More Coverage

Things to consider when planning a family-friendly meeting:

  • Choose a site that offers plenty of activities for kids. A resort is usually preferable to a downtown hotel. Day programs for children and childcare services are also desirable.
  • Consider including a reception with a theme and favors oriented toward kids.
  • Schedule enough free time during the meeting program to allow for some family time.

  • The duration of the meeting should be at least two days.

  • Plan the meeting sessions early in the day, clearing the afternoon for family activities before bringing everyone back together for an evening event.

  • Make sure that food and beverage offerings appeal to kids as well as adults. For instance, cereal should be available at breakfast.

  • Schedule breakfasts to extend a little later in the day to accommodate spouses and kids who may not want to get up as early as the attendees.

  • SMERF meetings are usually the most conducive to a family-friendly gathering.
