Event Calendar 

  • IMG Fashion and the Aruba Tourism Authority, along with its partner the Aruba Fashion Group, recently forged a three-year partnership for IMG to consult on the creation and execution of Aruba in Style, a yearly fashion, entertainment and lifestyle event to take place on the island of Aruba beginning in fall 2011. The event will be a mix of fashion shows, parties, presentations and shopping in various locations around the island.   • The legendary Saenger Theatre in New Orleans is undergoing an extensive makeover. The 2,700-seat Canal Street theater, which originally opened in 1927, is in the middle of a $38.8 million restoration and is scheduled for completion in late 2011. The Saenger Theatre features an approximately 2,000-pipe organ. For more information, call 504.525.1052.
  • Florida-based St. Augustine Eco Tours has a new vessel for taking guests on a silent ride to see manatees, sea turtles, dolphins and countless bird species. Called the Sirenia, the new 27-foot catamaran sails noiselessly into remote and wild backwaters, creeks and estuaries—all under the guidance of onboard naturalists.   • A 19-foot-high statue of Abraham Lincoln will soon sit in Stanville, a small rural town in Southeastern Kentucky. The statue took over a year to build at a total cost of over half a million dollars. The statue is an enlarged replica of a statue in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C, and honors the first and only Kentuckian elected to the presidency of the U.S.
  • The city of Virginia Beach is constructing a $100 million project, the Laskin Road Gateway. The highlight of the project will be a multiuse development dubbed the Beach Centre, scheduled to open the beginning of 2012. The Beach Centre will feature more than 64,000 square feet of new dining, entertainment and shopping options all within a few miles from the Virginia Beach Convention Center. The overall Laskin Road Gateway project will be built in four phases, with the final phase of infrastructure to be completed by September 2012.
