Checking In - December 2010

While helping to plan content for our Meetings Hawaii educational FAMs this month, and after working on two corporate social responsibility webinars, a unique idea dawned on me—okay, I’m sure I’m not the first to think of it, but it did just spring into my mind.

What about a new CSR: cultural social responsibility? It seemed like the perfect fit for our Hawaii programs, traveling to Maui, Kauai and the Big Island. Why wouldn’t groups meeting in paradise want to chip in to make sure it stays the way the native culture intends it? Isn’t that what traveling is all about, anyway?

Taking it a step further, on page 30 I interviewed Maui’s Clifford J. Nae’ole, cultural advisor at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, to see how groups can participate in this new CSR.

Mahalo all around!
