The city government of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which has been unsuccessfully negotiating with creditors to purchase the foreclosed Crowne Plaza Five Seasons, may attempt to acquire the property through its powers of eminent domain, accord to a report in the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
The 272-room Crowne Plaza, which is on city-owned land, is Cedar Rapids’ only downtown hotel and is attached to the U.S. Cellular Center arena. The city has plans under way to upgrade the arena and build an adjacent convention center.
