Atlanta

  • Loews Atlanta Hotel (404.745.5000) opened in April 2010 as the centerpiece of 12th & Midtown, a mixed-use development. The property has 414 guest rooms and more than 25,000 square feet of ballroom and meeting space.
  • In August 2010, Atlanta Marriott Marquis (404.521.0000) and Hyatt Regency Atlanta (404.577.1234) completed construction on a new pedestrian sky bridge that links the hotels over Peachtree Center Avenue. Along with the bridge completed in March 2009 that connects the Atlanta Marriott Marquis and Hilton Atlanta (404.659.2000; www1.hilton.com), the hotels now offer meeting planners and guests seamless connection of 4,341 guest rooms and nearly 450,000 square feet of meeting space.
  • The Hyatt Regency Atlanta (404.577.1234) began a three-year facelift in August 2010, starting with a major renovation of its lobby. Changes will include a new lobby bar, restaurant and coffee shop. The lobby renovation is expected to be completed by summer 2011, making way for a $22 million overhaul of the main tower guest rooms and an upgrade of the main ballrooms and meeting spaces.
  • The 502-room Renaissance Atlanta Hotel Downtown was purchased by Sol Melia and transformed into Hotel Melia Atlanta (404.877.9000) last October.
  • The terrace level of the former Macy's department store at 180 Peachtree St. was converted into an 18,000-square-foot exhibition hall and renamed 200 Peachtree (678.420.3408). The grand atrium opened in summer 2010. The top two floors will house boutique shops and restaurants.

Airport Area

  • The 403-room Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway (404.443.8750; www.marriott.com) opened last year with 20,000 square feet of event space.
  • The SpringHill Suites Atlanta Airport Gateway (404.461.2125; www.marriott.com) recently opened with 147 suites and 700 square feet of meeting space. Both properties are adjacent to the Georgia International Convention Center.

Peachtree City

  • In 2010, the 233-room Dolce Atlanta-Peachtree (770.487.2666), with 61,000 square feet of conference space, completed construction on a new ballroom that accommodates 470 guests.
  • The 250-room Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center (770.487.2000), which has more than 26,000 square feet of meeting space, expects to finish a $2 million renovation of its health and recreation facilities early this year.
