Boston

  • The development team Norwich Partners of Boston expects to begin work in April on a $45 million, 120-room hotel with two ground-floor retail and restaurant spaces at 368 Congress Street (617.536.4100). The property will be housed in a restored, circa-1901, six-story building three blocks from Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
  • The Royal Sonesta Hotel Boston (617.806.4200) is scheduled to finish a $6 million guest room renovation this month. The property has 22,000 square feet of meeting space and a seasonal outdoor patio available to groups during the spring and summer that overlooks the river and the city.
  • The Westin Copley Place Boston (617.262.9600) is undergoing an $18 million renovation to make it a greener property. The project, slated for completion by mid-April, includes guest room and corridor redesigns.
  • In 2010, the Hyatt Regency Boston (617.912.1234) completed major renovations to the hotel's third-floor lobby level, including enhancements to the Avenue One restaurant, four large meeting rooms, several prefunction areas, the Thomas Jefferson Grand Ballroom, the Adrienne de Lafayette Ballroom and the hotel's conference center.
  • The New England Aquarium (617.973.5200) is scheduled to open new meeting space in April. The West Wing will house one of the largest shark and ray touch tanks on the East Coast and accommodate groups of up to 100 for cocktail receptions and up to 60 for seated dining.
  • The 30-room Hotel Veritas (617.520.5000) opened in Cambridge in May 2010.
  • The Charles Hotel (617.864.1200) in Harvard Square, Cambridge, wrapped up a renovation of its meeting and public spaces last month. Interior upgrades include new carpeting, wall covering and lighting on the third floor. Updates to the conference center include state-of-the-art presentation LCD monitors in all meeting rooms and new audiovisual and acoustic technologies for business use.  
  • Hyatt Regency Cambridge Overlooking Boston (617.492.1234) recently completed a $15 million renovation that included enhancements to guest rooms, public spaces and meeting facilities.

North of Boston

  • The Andover Inn (978.775.4900) in Andover underwent extensive renovations and reopened in fall 2010. It now features 30 upgraded guest rooms, two function rooms and a dining room. The garden will soon include a tent that seats 175 for formal functions.
  • Last year, Ashworth by the Sea (603.926.6762), a Hampton Beach landmark for 95 years, completed a two-phase renovation that included new carpeting, wood flooring, custom millwork, wall coverings, furniture and lighting. New oceanfront windows and a raised stone hearth fireplace were also part of the project. The property has more than 6,000 square feet of event space.
