  • Boulder Bay (775.833.3377) slightly revised its plans to revitalize the Crystal Bay portion of Lake Tahoe, but was still planning to move forward with the large project at press time. Plans were contingent upon approval of the Final Environmental Impact Statement by the board of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, which had been slated to meet in late March on the matter. Among the project’s changes since its original proposal are to reduce its lodging units to 334 from 381, and to cut total retail and dining space back to 18,715 square feet from 27,620 square feet.
  • In December, Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino (775.832.1234) completed upgrades to its Lone Eagle Grille and Lakeside Ballroom, the region’s only resort lakeside ballroom. The property also just launched the Groups Giving Back program. Through the program, a percentage donation from the group’s master bill is given to a non-profit organization of the group’s choice, and the group is offered special volunteering opportunities with environmental organizations in the region.
  • Vail Resorts announced plans in March to invest $30 million on major capital improvement projects at its newest mountain resort property, Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort (530.562.1010), in preparation for the 2011-2012 winter ski season. Upgrades will range from a new high-speed chairlift that will increase the resort’s skiable terrain to the construction of a brand-new on-mountain restaurant seating 500.
  • The Resort at Squaw Creek (530.583.6300) in Olympic Valley is offering a Ski-Ride-Drive promotional offer for events booking 150 or more total room nights. The promotion provides one lift ticket to Squaw Valley USA or Alpine Meadows, or one round of golf on the Resort at Squaw Creek’s Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf course, per room, on the peak night of the program.

  • In December, Heavenly Mountain Resort (775.586.7000) opened Tamarack Lodge, its first new lodge in 30 years. Located near the top of Heavenly’s ski gondola, the lodge seats up to 750 people and features five themed food stations and 40-foot-tall windows providing superb views of the outdoor scenery.
