Jeff Heilman

Brooklyn, NY

After two decades as a business development executive in IT and new media, I turned to my original dream of being a professional writer. That was in 2004, and with Meetings Focus as one of my first clients, my professional adventure continues to this day. Centered in custom publishing, my works runs the gamut of genres, from business, marketing and law to travel, leisure and human interest. Also an extensive traveler and award-winning photographer, I am in the process of finishing my first book project, ghostwriting a history of women lawyers and women general counsel in the U.S.

Most unusual aspect of your job: No two days alike, and no telling where the next phone call or e-mail will take me.

Favorite book: Catcher in the Rye

Favorite food: Smoked salmon

Favorite TV show: Dexter

Favorite movie: Gimme Shelter

Most unique place you’ve been: Finnish Lapland, two hundred miles above the Artic Circle

Favorite aspect of the meetings/travel industry: The intersection of business and travel, the interplay of multiple economic elements, from transportation and hotels to dining and entertainment , and the great people involved.

Pet peeve: Ordinary days

One thing about you that most people don’t know: The key to that vault seems to be missing.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received in our industry? Sell the destination, not the square footage.

What’s your favorite local/regional place to take a visitor to your area? The area around New Paltz, NY, some 90 miles north of NYC, as naturally gifted a destination as they come.

Is there anything else you’d like to add that we’ve overlooked?
Have a story to tell? Let’s meet and talk about it.
