Biz Travel Rebound Higher Than Expected
Business travel posted higher than expected gains in Q4 2010 and travel spend will rise by nearly 7 percent to more than $245 billion in 2011, according to a new report from the Global Business Travel Association.

CEIR Predicts Exhibition Recovery
The Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) announced the release of the CEIR Index Report, An Analysis of the 2010 Exhibition Industry and Future Outlook. The Index reports that the overall exhibition industry hit bottom in 2010, and that the industry should see a modest recovery during the next three years in all metrics across most sectors.

Dolce's Urban Hotel Model Set for Indy
Dolce Hotels signed an agreement to manage a 157-room hotel soon to be constructed in downtown Indianapolis that will be a model for the company's future urban hotels, which will be designed for conferences as well as for individual business and leisure guests.

A quaint, historic destination that boasts all the accoutrements that accompany a Mississippi River location, Illinois' Galena and Jo Daviess County may have a small population, but its meetings options pack a punch.

"It's only a county of 22,000, and Galena only has 3,500 people, but you won't find many sparsely populated destinations like ours with such an abundance of things to do," says Celestino Ruffini, director of sales & marketing for the Galena/Jo Daviess County CVB.
Besides the two largest properties, Eagle Ridge, which offers four award-winning championship golf courses and a prime location on Lake Galena, and Chestnut Mountain Resort (which actually offers skiing from Thanksgiving to St. Patrick's Day), Galena itself boasts an interesting assortment of accommodation choices.

Happenings – Michigan
A $278 million renovation project is under way at the Cobo Conference/Exhibition Center (313.877.8777), including a new music-themed concession outlet, Eatsville USA, which is now open on the concourse.
Rock Financial Showplace in Novi has a new naming rights sponsor and will now be called Suburban Collection Showplace (248.348.5600). The facility features 214,000 square feet of exhibit floor space, 25,000 square feet of prefunction space and 19 breakout rooms.
The former Ritz-Carlton in Dearborn recently became The Henry (313.441.2000), part of Marriott's Autograph Collection. Plans are under way to embark on a multimillion-dollar renovation. The hotel has 293 guest rooms, 15 suites and 26,000 square feet of total meeting space.
