Live at the Beach! - Myrtle Beach

More Coverage

Myrtle Beach in recent years has added a lot of year-round destination appeal in its live theater lineup. It all began in 1986 with Calvin Gilmore's Carolina Opry. With acts ranging from country and comedy to impersonations of famous artists and theatrical acrobatics, the live show smorgasbord today is better than ever.

The theaters serve groups with ticketing and seating arrangements, meal planning, transportation and even hotel bookings.

Following are several of the destination's most exciting entertainment options.

  • At the 2,000-seat Alabama Theatre (800.342.2262; www.alabamatheatre.com), groups can see headliners such as Roy Clark, Loretta Lynn and Bill Cosby. One the Show fills the stage with variety song, dance and comedy.

  • Carolina Opry (800.843.6779; www.thecarolinaopry.com), Myrtle Beach's live entertainment originator, continues to bring in enthusiastic audiences to its 2,200-seat venue that presents music medleys including country, pop, gospel, Broadway, dance, comedy, jazz and more. Calvin Gilmore regularly appears at the Opry.

  • Celebration Music Theatre (843.839.6750; www.celebrationmb.com) is home to SUPERSTARZ!, the legendary tribute artist show that brings on hits from the biggest stars, including dancers, a live band and an exciting "just for kids" production called the Rocktastics!

  • Legends in Concert (800.960.7469; www.legendsinconcert.com) is the place to go for superstar look-alikes such as the Blues Brothers, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Michael Jackson.

  • The House of Blues (843.913.3707; www.houseofblues.com) is home to Isaac Tigrett's concept that started in Cambridge, Mass., in 1992 as a source for blues, gospel, jazz and rock 'n' roll. It contains a concert hall, full-service restaurant and venues for meetings. The House of Blues in Myrtle Beach is dedicated to the celebration and education of Southern culture and the African American artistic contributions to the nation's arts.

  • At the Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament (866.543.9637; www.medievaltimes.com), the revelry of a four-course medieval feast and rollicking tournament by knights on horseback keeps spectators on the edge of their seats.

  • Palace Theatre (888.841.2787; www.palacetheatremyrtlebeach.com) has 2,600 seats and spotlights the hit Le Grande Cirque, featuring a combination of acrobatic and theatrical performers. The Palace also presents Broadway shows and celebrity concerts.

  • Pirates Voyage-Fun Feast & Adventure (800.433.4401; www.piratesvoyage.com) will open this month as Dolly Parton's new $11 million show. It will feature a Buccaneer Battle and a pirate feast with music and acrobatics that will echo the excitement and spirit of pirates who arrived at Myrtle Beach in another era.
