What are three unique cultural experiences you would recommend for groups meeting in Myrtle Beach?

  • Brookgreen Gardens: The first of three amazing cultural experiences in the Myrtle Beach area I would recommend to any group is these breathtaking gardens in Murrells Inlet. They house the largest collection of American sculpture art in the world, as well as an accredited zoo, vast natural areas filled with wildlife and history, as it is on the site of four former rice plantations. Brookgreen really is one of the most spectacular settings in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

  • Hopsewee Plantation: Hopsewee in Georgetown is a circa-1740 rice plantation and the birthplace of Thomas Lynch Jr., signer of the Declaration of Independence. Visitors can enjoy a guided tour of a plantation house—from attic to cellar and the furnished home, which features 18th and 19th century antiques. A formal English tea experience is also an option for groups, as well as lunch or a private dinner on-site, all prepared by the owner.

  • L.W. Paul Living History Farm: This is a hidden gem in the county seat of Conway. Visitors can return to lifestyles from the first half of the 20th century because this 17-acre farm interprets what it would have been like to live in Horry County from 1900-1955. Visitors can observe and participate in activities that would have been commonplace on traditional family farms during this era, including plowing with mules, making lye soap, curing meat and milking cows. The L.W. Paul Living History farm is part of the Horry County Museum, so it is free to the public. Like the other two locations, this farm has meeting as well as event space for groups.
