What are three great excursion or activity options for groups meeting in Birmingham?
- Birmingham Zoo Exhibit: The "Trails of Africa" at the Birmingham Zoo opened in April. The exhibit is attracting international attention. It's developed over 14 acres, and the trails make up a mixed-species exhibit with a variety of animals native to the continent. The exhibit's primary attraction, an innovative development in global conservation, is a herd of African bull elephants.
- Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum: The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum has more than 1,200 vintage and modern motorcycles and race cars and an impressive collection of Lotus cars, as well as other significant makes. The collection is the largest of its kind in the world. Approximately 600 of the 1,200 motorcycles in the collection are on display at any given time. These bikes date from 1902 to current-year production. Common street bikes are represented, as well as rare Grand Prix race machinery. The museum is adjacent to Barber Motorsports Park (www.barbermotorsports.com), which is a world-class, 2.3-mile road course and home to the Honda Grand Prix of Alabama.
- Golfing: We have golf-friendly weather virtually year-round, so Birmingham is home to some of the region's premier public courses. Among the courses in the greater Birmingham area are two that are part of the nationally acclaimed Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, a collection of 468 holes of championship-caliber golf at 11 sites across Alabama. The Oxmoor Valley Golf Course is a 54-hole course built into the peaks and valleys of a mountainous area, with creeks, forests and challenging elevation changes. The 18-hole Ross Bridge course is the world's third-longest golf course. It's carved into the rolling terrain of Shannon Valley and challenges even the best golfers.
