What are three great outdoor options for groups?
- Biking Trails: In our warmer months (April-November), many visitors enjoy taking advantage of the city's first-class biking trails. Madison is considered one of the nation's best cities to cycle in by a number of national media outlets, including Bicycle and Outside magazines. With over 200 miles of off-road multiuse bike trails in Dane County, biking in Madison and its surrounding communities offers a scenic view of our plentiful green spaces and a great way to explore Madison and Dane County. Didn't bring your bike along? Check out the large number of places to rent a bike around town. Groups can check out detailed information and maps of the extensive trail network at www.visitmadison.com/visitors/play/sports-and-recreation/biking-and-hiking.
- Golf: Golf outings are another fun aspect of spending time outdoors in Madison. Wisconsin is home to the some of the best public golf courses in the nation, and the city of Madison has a host of private and public courses that offer visitors a challenging day on the links. Within Madison city limits, there are four premier municipal golf courses that are open for three seasons offering visitors not only a great day on the course, but every level of play from the beginner to the advanced duffer. For more information on public course options, lessons and tee times, visit www.cityofmadison.com/golf. During the winter months, the municipal golf courses transform into groomed cross-country ski trails.
- Lakes: Madison's treasures also include our beautiful and pristine lakes. Spend some time fishing, boating or relaxing on the beach at any of Madison's many lakefront beaches. Wingra Boats (www.wingraboats.com) rents out canoes, kayaks, rowboats, rowing shells, paddle boats and sailboats as well as offers sailing and windsurfing lessons on peaceful Lake Wingra. Enjoy fishing for a variety of fish species such as perch, crappie, bluegill, walleye, bass and northern pike with Captain Joe Okada at Hook 'N 'Eyes' Fishing Guide Service (www.joeokada.net). Or groups can sit back, relax and enjoy the magnificent view of Madison from Lake Monona or Lake Mendota with Betty Lou Cruises (www.bettyloucruises.com).
