Happenings - New Jersey

Atlantic City

  • Scheduled for completion this fall, Trump Marina Casino and Hotel (609.441.2000; www.trumpmarina.com) will be rebranded as a Golden Nugget following a $150 million renovation that will transform the property into a luxury resort. The refreshed resort will include a new spa, restaurants, updated rooms and suites, boutique retail shops, a renovated pool and H2O Ultra Lounge.

  • Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa (609.317.1000; www.theborgata.com) is undergoing a $50 million renovation of its 2,000-room hotel tower. Following the redesign of more than 300 suites last year, work is continuing on 1,600 regular guest rooms, hallways and other areas of the hotel. Completion is scheduled for summer 2012.

  • Under new management, Atlantic City's oldest casino, Resorts Casino Hotel (800.334.6378; www.resortsac.com) is nearing completion on rebranding into a "Roaring '20s" theme inspired by the success of HBO's hit series Boardwalk Empire, which took place in Prohibition-era Atlantic City. Included in the makeover is a newly opened nightclub called Prohibition catering to the LGBT crowd, the first of its kind to be operated by a gaming hall. At press time, the initiative was slated for completion by Memorial Day.

  • The stalled Revel Casino (www.revelcasino.com) project, a half-completed $2.4 billion casino-resort, is reportedly resuming construction and targeting completion by June 2012.

Meadowlands Liberty Region

  • Adjacent to the New Meadowlands Stadium, site of the Super Bowl in 2014, the failed Xanadu (www.meadowlands.com) mega-retail and entertainment complex at the Meadowlands is getting a new name—The American Dream—and is slated to expand from 2.2 million square feet to around 3 million square feet, plus receive a new facade. The project is slated for completion by 2013.

The Skylands

  • Offering more than 50,000 square feet of function space, Crystal Springs Resort (973.827.5996; www.crystalgolfresort.com), which acquired the four-season Mountain Creek ski resort last summer, debuted its new David Leadbetter Golf Academy in May 2011.
