Value Destinations
Values Abound
|
By RUTH A. HILL
|
If current meetings industry booking trends continue, 2011 may turn out to be one of the last best years for buyers in the foreseeable future. |
While some first-tier destinations are now able to call the shots during negotiations, especially for last-minute availability, good values can still be found in a wide variety of locations.
According to figures from Smith Travel Research, recovery is moving at differing paces across the country. Talking Tech
Togetherness 2.0
By JEFF RASCO
When Web 2.0 arrived on the scene in 2001 it was soon dubbed "The Collaborative Web." Web 2.0 is not so much a group of technologies that signify an upgrade from the original, but rather the usage of technology in a radically different way. No longer does the end user have to make sacrifices in the name of the webmaster to get things done, the end user becomes the master of the Web.
Websites no longer need be unidirectional electronic brochures, but need to become multidimensional and more functional with the addition of blogs that open communication channels, RSS feeds that allow customization of the information reaching you, XML (which helps translate data from one source to another) and Web services that further expand the distribution of information between previously disparate systems.

Team Building: Now More Than Ever?
By STEVEN DEFELICE
Staff reductions, pay cuts, budget bludgeoning, increased workloads--you know the story.
So where is the joy at ACME Inc. these days? A lot of it, ironically, can be found in team building. In fact, an argument could be made that there is a need for team-building events and exercises now more than ever.
In what is currently perceived to be a struggling if not stagnant economy in some quarters, employee and yes, even management morale, can be counted among the collateral damage.
A valued natural element of team building is that it can tap into some of our earliest feelings of fun, excitement and socialization, echoing back to when we were kids. Indeed, some of the early team-building exercises and events included puzzles, board games, magic tricks and other fundamentals employing creativity and imagination, including such ubiquitous toys as Legos and erector sets.

ROE is the new ROI |
|
Wednesday, June 15, 2011
For years, producing excellent live meetings, on budget and with some basic evaluation tools, was enough for most of us to be successful. But with the recent economic meltdown, the advance of technology, the hassles of travel and the poverty of time, the drum beat is loud and strong that knowing your Return on Event (ROE) and using it as a planning tool is critical to your success.
