L.A. Creates Tourism Marketing District

The Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved the creation of a Tourism Marketing District, which will be funded by a 1.5 percent increase in the room tax at hotels with over 50 rooms, designed to generate money for business and leisure tourism promotion.

The new TMD, expected to yield about $11 million a year in marketing funds, will be administered by LA INC, the city’s CVB. LA INC announced that it will meet with the city’s hospitality leadership to develop a new marketing effort to reach local, national and international audiences.

“We will also be creating new partnerships with our city’s top cultural, entertainment and lifestyle leaders to promote all that makes Los Angeles a great place to visit,” said Mark Liberman, president of LA INC.
