Downtown Los Angeles

  • The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles (213.743.8800; www.ritzcarlton.com) opened in 2010 as the cornerstone of L.A. Live, the $2.5 billion sports and entertainment complex adjacent to Staples Center and the Los Angeles Convention Center. The property has 123 guest rooms, including 14 suites, The Ritz-Carlton Spa, the 3,400-square-foot Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge on the 23rd floor and WP24 by Wolfgang Puck, featuring Asian fusion cuisine. The property shares more than 100,000 square feet of meeting space, including several ballrooms, with the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live. Groups can also use BLUE, the outdoor rooftop pool and terrace, for events. This summer, the property plans to roll out its completely revamped spa program, which will include all-new treatments and a number of new product lines.

  • The JW Marriott Hotel Los Angeles L.A. Live (213.765.8600; www.lalivemarriott.com) opened in 2010 with 878 guest rooms, including 52 suites; a 4,000-square-foot JW Marriott fitness center; ION rooftop pool and bar, available for group events; and a spa with nine treatment rooms. The property shares space with The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles and The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. Live in a 54-story tower.

  • The former Holiday Inn Los Angeles City Center underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation and was renamed the Luxe City Center Hotel (213.748.1291; www.luxecitycenter.com) last fall. The boutique hotel offers 164 guest rooms and 16 suites. Facilities include meeting and banquet space, a fitness center and a business center. Still under construction are the lobby and restaurant, expected to be completed by this fall.

  • Omni Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza (213.617.3300; www.omnilosangeles.com) completed a $15 million renovation of its 453 guest rooms in March. All meeting space was renovated as well.

  • The Sheraton Los Angeles (213.488.3500; www.sheraton.com) completed a $12 million renovation of its guest rooms in 2010. During 2011, renovations to the hotel's meeting space will take place throughout the year. The hotel has 485 guest rooms and suites.

Hollywood

  • The $360 million W Hollywood Hotel & Residences (323.798.1300; www.whotels.com/hollywood) opened in 2010. The property includes 305 guest rooms, 143 W-branded residences, a signature restaurant, a rooftop bar and a 6,100-square-foot spa. The property was awarded LEED Silver certification earlier this year.

  • The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel (323.466.7000; www.thompsonhotels.com) is undergoing a major transformation. The Spare Room, which opened in January, is being promoted as a modern-day gaming parlor and cocktail lounge located on the hotel's mezzanine level. The room features two vintage bowling lanes. Public Kitchen & Bar, which opened in February, replaced the previous restaurant. The hotel has also renovated the Cabana Rooms that surround the pool. Site of the first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929, the hotel features 300 guest rooms and suites.

The Valleys

  • The Beverly Garland Holiday Inn (818.980.8000; www.beverlygarland.com) near Universal Studios Hollywood recently completed a $2 million upgrade to its meeting and event facilities, pool and lobby area. In addition, the property relaunched the hotel's cocktail lounge, Decoy, named after the television series Beverly Garland starred in.

  • Warner Center Marriott (818.887.4800; www.warnercentermarriott.com) in Woodland Hills, recently completed an enhancement of its outdoor pool and terrace area, now named the Urban Oasis, and expanded its health club. The latest upgrades follow an extensive $6 million renovation of the hotel's 474 guest rooms, suites and guest room corridors. The hotel also features 25,000 square feet of upgraded meeting and event space.

  • Last year the Pasadena Convention Center (626.793.2122; www.pasadenacenter.com) was awarded LEED Gold Certification. The $150 million convention center expansion project was completed in 2009 and included a 55,000-square-foot exhibit hall, a 25,000-square-foot ballroom, 25,000 square feet of prefunction space and a 22,000-square-foot outdoor plaza.
