McCormick Place Loses Ruling on Work Rules

The 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals denied a request from officials at Chicago’s McCormick Place for work-rule reforms to be kept in place while they undergo challenges from labor unions.

Chicago convention officials are appealing a recent ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Guzman that McCormick Place stop operating under the labor-law reforms enacted by the Illinois state legislature last year.

Guzman ruled that many of the reforms are illegal because the legislature went beyond the terms of union contracts. The ruling was made on combined lawsuits by Local 727 of the Teamsters and Chicago Regional council of Carpenters.
