Checking In

It’s a big year for Hawaii. Much like the Olympic Games is a boon for tourism business in its host city, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum will give Honolulu a chance to show off its meetings and conventions savvy to the world.

Successfully setting the stage in November for APEC 2011—expected to lure 20,000 delegates from countries across the globe—is particularly important for Hawaii considering the strides the destination has made in recent years to overcome perception concerns. With President Obama welcoming other top world leaders to his homeland, not to mention hundreds of CEOs from major corporations, APEC 2011 will prove that Hawaii can get down to serious business in paradise.

In our cover story, “In the Spotlight,” Features Editor Maria Lenhart details how Hawaii plans to shine as an international meetings star for APEC 2011 and how the destination is boosting group business overall.

Lenhart’s “Sitting Pretty” piece covers the impressive improvements and additions taking shape throughout the islands.
