Two years ago, many corporate executives wouldn't have dreamed of stepping foot inside a luxury resort. Today, the landscape looks vastly different, as fading perception issues, an improved economy and a lack of new supply are turning the tide for upscale resort properties.

"It's been a wild rollercoaster," says hospitality industry analyst Jan Freitag, vice president of global development for STR Global in Hendersonville, Tenn. "While the global and U.S. economy had its meltdown, the upper end of the market was hit disproportionally hard and went way down. But now it is way up again."

Planners looking to add spice to the meetings menu can start by bringing a new destination into the mix. Here are four locales, including an important music capital and a nearly 500-year-old city, that are evolving as exciting choices for planners to consider.
AUSTIN, TEXAS
Widely known as the Live Music Capital of the World, Austin is also gaining recognition on the meetings front with a host of brand-name hotels and increased exposure thanks to the likes of star-studded festivals like SXSW.
"This was our 25th year for SXSW, and it continues to give us great exposure all over the world," says Rob Hampton, vice president of sales of the Austin CVB.

MUSEUMS & ATTRACTIONS
- The High Museum of Art in Atlanta will collaborate with The Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA), with the exclusive presentation of the exhibition Picasso to Warhol: Twelve Modern Masters, beginning in October. The exhibition will present approximately 100 works created by 12 of the most iconic artists from the 20th century: Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Constantin Brancusi, Piet Mondrian, Fernand Leger, Marcel Duchamp, Giorgio De Chirico, Joan Miro, Alexander Calder, Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol. The exhibition will be one of the largest concentrations of modern art masterpieces to ever be exhibited in the Southeastern U.S. The exhibition will be on view from Oct. 15 through April 29, 2012.
