Data Shows Spike in Biz Travel Costs
American Express Global Business Travel released business travel pricing trends for the second quarter of 2011 from its Business Travel Monitor (BTM), a price trending index for domestic and international trips originating in North America. The BTM data shows continued rate increases for flights and accommodations as suppliers continue to take advantage of the return in demand and other market factors to raise rates.

Conference Hotel Set for Kearney, Neb.
Marriott International is scheduled to open the 105-room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in Kearney, Neb., on Friday, Aug. 26. The hotel will be attached to the 70,000-square-foot Younes Conference Center.

BISMARCK-MANDAN
- A flurry of hotel activity is taking place in Dickinson (800.279.7391; www.visitdickinson.com), where a 79-room La Quinta Suites and 90-room Candlewood Suites are both set to open in 2012. A 79-room Microtel Inn & Suites recently opened, and properties under construction include an 85-room Hampton Suites and The Astoria, which will offer 95 guest rooms. Additionally, the Ramada Grand Dakota Lodge just completed a renovation that included the addition of 43 luxury suites and 8,500 square feet of event space.

Four years in the waiting, the APEX/ASTM Environmentally Sustainable Event Standards are one giant leap closer to reality.
The Convention Industry Council (CIC) in June announced that eight of the nine draft standards have completed review by the ASTM committee, where they have been under development, clearing them for final approval and ratification as official ASTM standards.
The suite of standards, comprised of nine individual "sector" standards, covers all facets of event planning and management: accommodations, audiovisual, communication and marketing, destinations, exhibits, food and beverage, meeting venue, on-site office and transportation.
