Connecticut
Bristol

  • The Clarion Hotel (860.589.7766; www.clarionhotel.com) is undergoing a $12 million expansion and renovation and will be rebranded as a Doubletree by Hilton property during the coming year. The project includes the addition of a six-story tower with 22 suites and a new outdoor patio area adjacent to the meeting space.

Stamford

  • The Sheraton Stamford Hotel (203.358.8400; www.sheratonstamford.com) in Stamford recently opened with 379 guest rooms and 13,000 square feet of upgraded meeting and event space. Guest rooms each feature high-speed Internet access.

 

Maine
Brunswick

  • The Inn at Brunswick Station (207.837.6565; www.brunswick-station.com) opened with 52 guest rooms and function space for up to 150 people. The Inn, which also includes a restaurant serving traditional New England fare, is located near Bowdoin College and Brunswick Station, a mixed-use dining and shopping complex that will have Amtrak train service.

Portland

  • The Hampton Inn Portland/Downtown-Waterfront (207.775.1454; www.hamptoninn.hilton.com) opened recently. The 122-room hotel offers a full-service restaurant, a fitness center and meeting space accommodating up to 50 people.

 

Massachusetts
Boston

  • A Massachusetts state panel recommended a $2 billion expansion of the Boston Convention & Exposition Center (617.954.2000; www.bostonconventioncenter.com) that would nearly double the size of the Seaport District complex—and also require a hotel tax increase and public subsidies to fund it. The planned project includes additional exhibition and meeting space as well as an adjacent hotel with up to 1,200 rooms.
  • The Liberty Hotel (617.224.4000; www.libertyhotel.com) became a member of the Starwood Luxury Collection earlier this year when it came under new management by HEI Hotels & Resorts. The property is located in the former Charles St. Jail.
  • The Westin Copley Place Boston (617.262.9600; www.westincopleyplaceboston.com) recently completed an $18 million renovation to make it a greener property. The project included guest room and corridor redesigns.

Cambridge

  • The Charles Hotel (617.864.1200; www.charleshotel.com) in Cambridge’s Harvard Square wrapped up a renovation of its meeting and public spaces. Interior upgrades include new carpeting, wall covering and lighting on the third floor. Updates to the conference center include state-of-the-art presentation LCD monitors in all meeting rooms and new audiovisual and acoustic technologies for business use.  
  • Hyatt Regency Cambridge Overlooking Boston (617.492.1234; www.cambridge.hyatt.com) in Cambridge recently completed a $15 million renovation that included enhancements to guest rooms, public spaces and meeting facilities.

Lenox

  • The Cranwell Resort & Spa (403.637.1364; www.cranwell.com) formed a partnership with Stash Rewards that enables guests to earn nights at participating independent hotels with no blackout periods. The resort also launched an app of its own, which includes area information as well as information about the property, for iPhone, iPad and Android phones.

 

New Hampshire
Bretton Woods

  • The Omni Mount Washington Resort (603.278.1000; www.omnihotels.com) wrapped up a $60 million renovation and expansion that included a guest room renovation, new 25,000-square-foot spa, new 20,000-square-foot conference center and a restored Donald Ross-designed golf course.

Keene

  • The Lane Hotel (603.357.7075; www.thelanehotel.com) opened in a 19th century brick building in downtown Keene. The 40-room boutique property offers a lobby with a fireplace and bar, guest rooms that include loft suites and 3,000 square feet of meeting space.

 

Rhode Island
Providence

  • The Westin Providence (401.589.8000; www.starwoodhotels.com) recently completed a meeting space renovation. The property offers 564 guest rooms and 23,000 square feet of meeting space.
  • Property-wide renovations were recently completed at the 210-room Courtyard Providence Downtown (401.272.1191; www.courtyard.com/pvddt). The hotel features 3,500 square feet of meeting space.

Newport

  • Newport welcomed a new waterfront hotel last year with the opening of Forty 1° North (401.846.8018; www.41north.com). The property offers 28 guest units, some of which are in stand-alone cottages. Groups of up to 150 are welcome on decks and indoor meeting rooms.

Warwick

  • Closed down for over 16 months following floods in 2010 that damaged its first floor, the NYLO Providence/Warwick (401.732.4460; www.nylohotels.com) reopened in August. The 163-room hotel, which has 1,450 square feet of meeting space, originally opened in 2008.

 

Vermont
Stowe

  • Stowe Mountain Resort (802.253.3560; www.stowemountainlodge.com) recently unveiled a multitude of new additions, including the South Wing of Stowe Mountain Lodge. The lodge added 173 guest rooms, more the doubling its current capacity.
