The Metro D.C. region could easily brand itself as a one-size-fits-all destination. More than its role as the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., and its neighboring Maryland and Virginia communities appeal to culture vultures, history hounds, self-appointed foodies and outdoor buffs alike with a plethora of art museums, celebrity chef hot spots, green spaces and national landmarks.

Happenings – Metro Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C.
- The Washington Marriott Marquis (202.962.4482; www.marriott.com) is scheduled to open in spring 2014. The hotel will feature 1,175 guest rooms and 100,000 square feet of meeting space and will be connected by pedestrian walkway to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
- Hilton Garden Inn Washington, D.C./U.S. Capitol (202.408.4870; www.hiltongardeninn.com) opened earlier this year with 204 guest rooms and meeting space for up to 300 people.

Museum Mania

Stepping into the world of sleuths and spies, I go undercover with a secret identity as I embark on a tour of the International Spy Museum. My disguise seems to work, as I move undetected between rooms, perusing centuries of spy history.
My first stop is the room “School for Spies,” a James Bond lover’s dream, filled with microbots, bugs, buttonhole cameras and over 50 years of spy technology used by the KGB, OSS and other spy networks—a showcase of tricks of the trade.
