  • Work has begun on an $8.9 million expansion of Ocean City’s Roland E. Powell Convention Center, including a new loading dock. The current loading dock will be removed to make way for 20,000 square feet of floor space that will extend to the waterfront. The project is expected to be finished in October 2012. During the initial planning stages, a second expansion phase was included that would see the addition of a 1,200-seat, two-story performing arts center. That plan is still in discussion.   • Chesapeake Hospitality is now managing the 175-room Holiday Inn Columbia.   • Plans are in the works to build a 68-story property in Manhattan that will house two different hotels—the 378-room Courtyard Manhattan/Central Park and the 261-room Residence Inn Manhattan/Central Park. The multimillion-dollar project will open in late 2013. In addition to ground floor retail space, a leased restaurant will occupy the 2nd floor, and a 5th floor lounge and terrace with outdoor seating will overlook Broadway.   • Parkview Developers plans to open New York City’s first gay-oriented hotel, The OUT NYC.
