In the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, some hotels are offering value rates to attract travelers, while some are still closed as they make repairs from damage—usually minimal.
In Atlantic City, 11 casinos reopened by noon on Monday, after suffering only slight cosmetic damage. Many, including Bally’s, Caesars Golden Nugget and Harrah’s, were offering “Good Night Irene” rates from $50-$78 to boost midweek business.
Several resorts in the Caribbean remained closed as hotel workers clean up debris and damage to landscaping. Among those affected, the Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau is expected to reopen on Sept. 28, Breezes Bahamas in Nassau is expected to reopen on Nov. 1 and Beaches Turks & Caicos is scheduled to reopen on Oct. 6.
While many small hotels and inns in Vermont and coastal North Carolina, two of the areas that felt the heaviest impact, are up and running, road closures and public perception remain obstacles for some.
