Bristol
The Clarion Hotel (860.589.7766; www.clarionhotel.com) is undergoing a $12 million expansion and renovation and will be rebranded as a Doubletree by Hilton property during the coming year. The project includes the addition of a six-story tower with 22 suites and a new outdoor patio area adjacent to the meeting space.

Stamford
The Sheraton Stamford Hotel (203.358.8400; www.sheratonstamford.com) in Stamford recently opened with 379 guest rooms and 13,000 square feet of upgraded meeting and event space. Guest rooms each feature high-speed Internet access.

Conferences Build Communities – A Meetings Focus blog

Or do communities build conferences? Or maybe better, people build communities and conferences are one way to gather?

Last week, during an industry event, I spent time talking with colleagues about the future of associations and meetings. There were informal gatherings where you happen on someone in a hall (the origin of Open Space Technology), formal gatherings (open and closing receptions) and communities that formed from individuals who gathered for a meal or beverage.
