The legendary Ambassador East Hotel will re-open on Sept. 15 as the Public Chicago, following a $35 million transformation.
The property, built in 1926 and featuring 285 rooms, is approximately one mile north of the Loop downtown business district.
The hotel is the first in the new ‘Public’ brand launched by Schrager, which purportedly will bypass the hotelier’s propensity for cutting-edge style to focus on tasteful affordability. One highly anticipated element of the Chicago Public is its Pump restaurant, the brainchild of world-renowned chef and 2011 James Beard award winner Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
