Kimpton Moves Forward on Converting Historic Philly Property

With 268 rooms overlooking Philadelphia’s Independence Mall, the four-star Hotel Monaco will be one of only two city hotels to open in 2012, taking over the historic 11-story Lafayette Building after an $87 million conversion.

This is a second investment in the city for San Francisco-based Kimpton. In October 2009, it opened the 230-room, four-star Palomar at 17th and Sansom Streets in the former Architects Building.

The Hotel Monaco will offer approximately 14,000 square feet of meeting space, 3,200 square feet of ballroom space, and a rooftop lounge with capacity for up to 250.

Hotel Monaco will be within short walking distance of the Convention Center, hospitals, and federal offices.
